What do you call it? Peace or Victory? I love both words for this hand gesture!
This new decal design was in response to some concerns people had about my original peace and unity design. The one with skin gradient that goes from light to dark, top to bottom.
"Why is the darkest skin tone on the bottom?"
I found myself getting defensive over my design. I wanted everyone to know that I was referencing light source when I created it...not placing a people group below others.
It never dawned on me that people might see my design as oppression. Nope. I had to be told.
I had a choice to make, I could either step up and defend my design. Get on my soap box with my mega phone and push my point of view on my audience with the hope that enough information would change how they felt, OR I could do what's right. Listen, gain some much needed wisdom and see things from a new perspective.
My main objective with this design was to unify people, not broaden the divide by pushing my own agenda. Through this process of redesign, I feel like God grew my heart. It needed it. My eyes needed to be opened and my heart needed to be compassionately stretched. It wasn't comfortable, but growth never is.
I'm open to your comments and your critiques. I appreciate the ways it pushes me towards deeper understanding.
